The expert search can be customized using a list of parameters that work as filters.

Content Filters

The user has an option to select any or all of the following data sources under Content – NEJM, MEDLINE, NIH Projects, RCUK Projects Selected Conferences, US Patents Applications and Grants and Clinical Trials.

Filters Specific to Medline

Research Focus

Search from the MEDLINE data source can be restricted to journals with a focus on: Clinical, Clinical Trial, Geriatric, Guideline, Pediatric, Translational, Toxicology and Other.

First Author / Last Author

This filter facilitates the identification of experts who may be rising stars (First Authors Only) or Key Opinion Leaders (Last Authors Only).

Journal Publication Country

This filter is used to find articles from journals that are published in a selected country.

Journal Publication Language

This filter is used to find articles published in a specified language.

Journal Publication Type

This filter is used to find articles published by type of publication.

US Patents Filters

The US Patents filter allows users to search patents by type and to include or exclude claims section. Specific parameters for this section are:

Applications

This filter restricts the search to patent applications.

Grants

This filter restricts the search only to granted patents.

Search Claims

This filter allows users to include the claims section of patents in the search.

People Filters

The People filters allow users to structure search results based on certain personal characteristics and information known about experts. Specific parameters for this section are:

Name

This filter allows users to search for an expert by name. The use of quotes is recommended for a specific expert name search.

Affiliation

This filter allows users to perform free text searches to identify experts affiliated with the school, institution, and/or department entered. Expert affiliations are currently captured from the affiliation field in the most recent MEDLINE article and/or NIH Project document. The use of quotes is recommended for the specific affiliation name search.

Country

This filter allows users to identify experts from a specific country. The country information is currently captured from an expert's affiliation.

Dates Filter

This filter restricts search results to the specified date range.

From/To (Date Range)

The dates used in this filter for different types of documents are: MEDLINE, published date; NIH Grants, project start date; Conferences, published date; US Patents, application date; and Clinical Trials, first received date.
