These filters help you select a subset of the data for refining the search query. Where applicable, the multi-select feature allows more than one value to be selected, resulting in searches for trials that match any of the selected values. By default, all filters are set to their most general setting.
General filters
Data source
Restrict search results to one or more of the Clinical Trials Registries. See Clinical Trials Data Sources for more information.
Age
Studies may be designed for participants of particular ages. This filter provides the following age groups to select from: Senior (66+), Adult (18-65), Child (0-17).
Gender
This filter provides the option to restrict results to include trials that recruit either male only or female only participants.
Last Update
The last update date is the most recent date when changes to a clinical trial were submitted to the registry. Studies can be filtered by specifying a range of years for the last update date.
Start Date
The start date is the study start date data field of the trial record. Studies can be filtered by specifying a range of years for the start date.
Country
Country identifies the geographic location of the trial. The filter allows user to restrict results to one or more countries.
Trials with Relevant News Releases
This filter restricts the search results to only those clinical trials where clinical trials have been linked to relevant news releases. Linking clinical trials to relevant news releases is an ongoing process.
Trials with Relevant Publications
This filter restricts the search results to only those clinical trials where clinical trials have been linked to relevant publications.
Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)
This filter restricts the search results to only Randomized Controlled Trials.
Search Comments
This filter allows searching comments, if any added to trials.
Recruitment Status
This filter allows users to restrict their search by recruitment status. The default selection is “All” for status. (The primary completion date and study completion date is "Anticipated" for the studies with the following recruitment status: Recruiting, Not yet recruiting, Active not recruiting, and Enrolling by invitation. For all other recruitment statuses, the primary and study completion date is "Actual").
Study Type
Study type describes the type of clinical trial in terms of interventional, observational or expanded access. The Not Specified filter is provided to allow users to include trials that have specified no study type.
Phase
The drug development during clinical research is designated as a phase 0, 1 ( 1a, 1b,1/2a, 1/2b), 2 (2a, 2b, 2/3) or 3 (3a, 3b) based on the number of expected trial participants and the types of questions the trial is trying to answer. The post-marketing drug development is designated as phase 4 (4a, 4b). The phase filter allows users to restrict results to one or more phases of clinical development. Users also have the option to search for trials that have not specified the phase.
Funded By
Studies are supported/Funded by one or more organizations and are assigned a type from one of the following categories:
Industry
NIH
Other (e.g. Individual, University, Organization, Societies, Foundations, etc.)
U.S. Fed(eral Government)
Inclusion Criteria
This filter allows user to query (free text) the "inclusion Criteria" field of the trial record.
Boolean logic can be added to any free text query by adding AND, OR, or NOT to the query. As stated above, the application defaults to adding AND between all words in the query. Using NOT will eliminate all documents that contain the negated term even if they contain the first word of the query. The addition of OR between two words or phrases in a query relaxes the search restrictions of AND. If OR is used, the application not only finds all occurrences of the full phrase, but also finds each word individually. Higher relevance is then given to documents that contain the full phrase.
Exclusion Criteria
This filter allows user to query (free text) the "exclusion Criteria" field of the trial record. The application defaults to adding AND between filters of Inclusion Criteria and Exclusion Criteria.
Primary Outcome Measures
This filter allows user to query (free text) the "Primary Outcome" field of the trial record.

Secondary Outcome Measures
This filter allows user to query (free text) the "Secondary Outcome" field of the trial record. The application defaults to adding AND between filters of Primary Outcome Measures and Secondary Outcome Measures.
